Give Old Records a New Spin
Scratched or unplayable vinyl? Don’t throw it out — turn it into something amazing! This easy upcycling idea transforms old records into stylish retro bowls that make perfect trinket dishes, planters, or nostalgic décor.
At Cambrian Clearance, we love finding creative ways to reuse and reinvent the past. Whether you’re a vintage lover, an eco-conscious crafter, or simply looking for something fun to do on a rainy day, this one’s a classic.
What You’ll Need
A vintage vinyl record (find yours in our Vinyl Section in store)
Oven-safe glass or metal bowl
Baking tray
Oven gloves
Optional: smaller bowls or scrunched foil for custom shape
Step-by-Step: Upcycle Your Vinyl
1. Preheat your oven Set to 100–120°C (210–250°F) — you just need gentle heat to soften the vinyl.
2. Prepare your mould Place your bowl upside down on a baking tray — this will shape the vinyl’s edges.
3. Add your record Position the vinyl on top of the bowl, label facing up, and heat for 2–4 minutes until it starts to soften and droop.
4. Shape your design Wearing oven gloves, remove it carefully and shape the edges while still warm.💡 Tip: Press it between two bowls or use foil to create wavy, organic curves.
5. Cool and set Let it cool completely before handling — once hardened, it will hold its new form perfectly.

Add Your Own Twist
Line the inside with felt for a jewellery dish
Create a tiered display with smaller bowls
Mix colourful labels for a bold retro look
A Quick Safety Note
Always work in a well-ventilated space, and don’t overheat — vinyl softens fast!Use older records you don’t plan to play again (no Beatles rarities here!).
